Opening of the Exhibition “Tribute to the Côa River Valley Engravings” at the National Archaeology Museum in Lisbon

January 30, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

The National Archaeological Museum, in collaboration with the Coa Parque Foundation, will open on January 30 at 6 pm the exhibition “Tribute to the Engravings of the Côa River Valley”.

This exhibition is composed of works of art by Portuguese artists, namely Mario Cesariny, Graça Morais, Rui Chafes, Jose Pedro Croft, Manuel Zimbro, Lourdes Castro, Angelo de Sousa, among others, who joined the social movement that, in the mid-nineties of the twentieth century prevented the construction of a dam on the Côa River that would entail the destruction of this heritage.

The exhibition is accompanied by a catalog organized by Ana Pessoa Mesquita with texts by Pedro Proença and Duarte Belo, also author of the photographs.

After having been exhibited together after more than 20 years at the commemorative exhibition of the 20th anniversary of UNESCO World Heritage Site listing that was shown at the Côa Museum in 2019, the Lisbon public will now be able to appreciate these multifaceted works, united in the effort to preserve the Côa Valley rock art.
