30th Anniversary of the Côa Valley Archaeological Park
The Côa Valley Archaeological Park marked its 30th anniversary on 10 August 2026.
This milestone is being celebrated through a programme of activities honouring the Côa Valley’s rock art and the work undertaken over more than three decades to study, preserve and promote it.
The celebrations continue until December 2026, with a range of initiatives inviting local communities and visitors to (re)discover its history, share knowledge and celebrate this legacy. The programme includes visits to the Côa Museum, exhibitions, workshops, music and a film series dedicated to Palaeolithic art.
Highlights of the activities held so far include visits to the Côa Museum by residents of the various parishes within the Côa Valley Archaeological Park area and a re-enactment of the demonstration against the construction of the dam, recalling the campaign to protect the engravings in 1995.
Screenings of videos about rock art also provide opportunities to discover and reflect on this heritage.
The Côa Parque Foundation invites all its friends, visitors and followers to join us in celebrating the Côa Valley Archaeological Park’s 30th anniversary and to take part in the forthcoming activities.
