Collaboration protocol between the Coa Parque Foundation and the Faculty of Letters of the University of Porto

The Coa Parque Foundation signed a collaboration agreement with the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto (FLUP). The protocol was signed by Bruno Navarro, President of the Board of Directors of the Coa Parque Foundation and Fernanda Ribeiro, Director of FLUP, on 28 March.

This protocol has consecrated a collaboration that, in an informal way, has been developed in the last two decades between several professors and researchers from FLUP and from the Coa Valley Archaeological Park. This collaboration has been translated into several dimensions: organization of scientific meetings on rock art, publication of studies on the Côa and the Rock Art of the Côa Valley by FLUP (within the scope of the magazine PORTVGALIA), orientation and defense of Master and PhD theses on the Art of the Côa or on the archaeological reality of the Côa. It is noted that the first Doctoral Thesis defended in Portugal exclusively on the Paleolithic Art of the Côa Valley was presented at FLUP in 2017 by André Tomás Santos and was directed by Maria de Jesus Sanches, a professor in the Department of Sciences and Techniques of Heritage of FLUP.

The FLUP also has a long connection to the Côa Valley area, having been associated with the first civic movements to safeguard the Côa rock heritage. And in this area developed remarkable projects such as those of Castelo Velho (Dir. Susana Rodrigues Lopes), Castanheiro do Vento (Dir. Vítor Oliveira Jorge et alii). The protocol now signed consecrates and formalizes an already long collaboration allowing to potentiate and stimulate the articulation between the two institutions.
