3 Museums Joint Visit

Located in Porto, the Serralves Foundation occupies a cultural center with 18 hectares, composed of an exceptional heritage ensemble including:

– The Museum of Contemporary Art (project by the architect Álvaro Siza), which has 14 rooms, with exhibitions of the most important national and international artists, dance, music, and performance shows, among other activities.

– The Park, composed of a great diversity of magnificent spaces harmoniously interconnected: formal gardens, woods and a traditional farmhouse. Designed by the architect Jacques Gréber in the 30s of the 20th century, it is a unique reference in Portuguese landscape heritage.

– The Art Deco House, a unique example of Art Deco architecture. For its interior contributed the most important European names in furniture design: Émile Jacques Ruhlmann, René Lalique, and Edgar Brandt.*

The Company House, which today houses the Douro Museum in Peso da Régua, is one of the most emblematic buildings in the history of the Douro Demarcated Region. Its construction is directly related to the founding of the General Company of Agriculture of the Vineyards of Alto Douro that, in 1756, created the first demarcated and regulated wine zone of the world.

The Douro Museum includes in its collection ethnographic objects from the Douro Region, with special emphasis on the elements associated with Douro winemaking, labels, Port wine posters, and documentary collections, as well as a collection of art. It also has in its custody several collections in deposit from private and private institutions.
