COMBINED VISIT

Siega Verde

The Siega Verde Archaeological Zone, declared a World Heritage Site in 2010 as an extension of the Côa Valley, is located on the banks of the river Águeda, about 15 kms downstream of Ciudad Rodrigo and of the border with Portugal. It is a special place chosen for making engravings by prehistoric hunter-gatherer communities since it allowed to cross the river and was a privileged point of control and observation of the animals that came to quench their thirst.

The extensive collection of Paleolithic rock art was discovered in 1988. Duly studied and protected, it is now possible to carry out different guided tours and experimental archeology workshops in the existing Interpretation Center. This is an essential visit to get to know the truly unique open-air Paleolithic rock art of the Douro basin, whose most important sites are precisely the Côa Valley and Siega Verde.
