The photograph captured by archaeologist Mário Reis, a researcher for the LandCraft project funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), achieved 2nd place in the selection of the 18 best images of 2024 by National Geographic.

The image depicts panel no. 1 of the Lapas Cabreiras rock shelter, located in the Côa Valley, showcasing the artistic and historical richness of this heritage site. This international recognition highlights the significance of the Côa’s graphic system, which continues to captivate with its uniqueness and cultural value.
