Seminar “World Heritage and Climate Change: Challenges and Solutions”

Climate change is a current concern of UNESCO which, in the area of culture, has been mobilizing the heritage community for climate action. Regarding World Heritage, the preservation and conservation of assets recognized under the Convention for the Protection of World Cultural and Natural Heritage (UNESCO Convention, 1972) requires an understanding of the impacts of climate change on the exceptional universal value of properties. so that an effective response can be given.
In this context, as part of the celebrations of the 40th anniversary of the ratification by Portugal of the aforementioned Convention, the UNESCO National Commission and the Côa Parque Foundation, manager of the Prehistoric Rock Art Sites of the Côa Valley, organize the Seminar “World Heritage and Climate Change: Challenges and Solutions ”, which will take place at the Côa Museum, on October 4, and will be attended by some of the most outstanding national experts, classified sites managers and public officials in the areas of Heritage and environment.
This seminar is also part of the seminar “UNESCO Territories (Geoparks and Biosphere Reserve) and Climate Change: Challenges and Solutions” promoted by the UNESCO National Commission at the Lisbon Academy of Sciences in January this year.
