The exhibition Jo\u00e3o Cutileiro: recent engravings and other risks, the sculptor’s latest project and, formally, the first developed by the Jo\u00e3o Cutileiro Art Centre, an entity created to promote the safeguarding and dissemination of the artistic legacy of this extraordinary artist, opens on 18 April, at 15h00, at the C\u00f4a Museum.
\nPlanned to open in November 2020, the exhibition resulted from a proposal by Bruno Navarro and the C\u00f4a Park Foundation, still in 2019, in articulation with the Culture Regional Direction of Alentejo.
\nThus, in addition to an exhibition of sculpture and drawing, this is a particularly emotional occasion for the teams involved in its production, which also takes on the sense of a tribute to the sculptor and historian who gave rise to it.
\nBringing his stone engravings to the C\u00f4a was an exciting idea for Jo\u00e3o Cutileiro, who was particularly fascinated by the artistic production of the C\u00f4a Valley. He admired the modernity, strength and telluric energy of the C\u00f4a artists and the way they intentionally scratched life into the stones.
\nEngravings on stone, drawings on paper and a set of warriors were selected in close collaboration with the sculptor for the extraordinary space of the C\u00f4a Museum. The exhibition was essentially intended to establish a relationship with the surroundings and show works that are representative in the context of Jo\u00e3o Cutileiro’s work, which is strongly marked by the feminine presence.<\/p>\n
