The reference to the Palaeolithic Rock Art of the Lascaux Cave located in this region is inevitable. \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo \n15h00 Visit to the rock art shelters of Colmeal (requires prior registration); \nColmeal rock art\nThe rock art of Colmeal is part of a large quartzite massif in Serra da Marofa. At the base of the rocky massif are three small shelters open\, in various vertical panels\, there are various painted motifs\, almost all in red ochre\, but including a rare set of black painted figures.\nThe painted figurative ensemble\, composed of approximately fifty motifs\, where human representations predominate\, belongs to the so-called Schematic Art\, a figurative expression of the first prehistoric farming communities\, that is present in almost the entire Iberian Peninsula and chronologically stretches from the 6th to the 3rd millennium.C. \nFor more information and registration:\nCôa Museum\nEmail: museugeral@arte-coa.pt\nTel: 279 768 260/7 \n  \n

As it has happened in previous years\, the Archaeological Park and the Côa Museum\, together with the Direção-Geral do Património Cultural. propose a special programme to celebrate the date. \nThe Côa Valley Rock Art is one of the world’s oldest art form\,  Paleolithic Art. The farmhouses and their vineyards are unmissable landmarks in the landscape of the Douro Vinhateiro. \nThe Coa Park Foundation\, in partnership with Quinta do Vale Meão\, proposes a route where the characteristics of the rural landscape of the Douro Vinhateiro\, visiting the Quinta do Vale Meão\, and the heritage of the Coa Valley in a guided tour of the Museum. \nMore information: museugeral@arte-coa.pt
