Jurassic (200-146 Ma)

second Period of the Mesozoic Era, known as the “Age of Reptiles”. Some invertebrate faunas, such as belemnites, appear and big dinosaurs continue to rule. In the north hemisphere, the Tethys Ocean still separated Gondwana from the other continents and the Atlantic Ocean was beginning to open. A massive extinction of life forms, both in the seas and on land, marks the transition from the Triassic Period to the Jurassic.
